Battle musician Amy Tinsley, who studies at Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM), features on the college’s first-ever album, launched earlier this July 2003.
Amy sings on the track ‘Safety Net’ with the Alice Shaw Band for the album, aptly titled ‘How To Mend A Broken Pier’.
Amy, like the other student artists on the disc – which features a wide range of musical styles including pop, reggae and heavy metal – was chosen after a rigorous selection procedure including assessment by music giant BMG Publishing’s managing director Ian Ramage and the BIMM directors.
Kevin Nixon, director at BIMM and partner in Major/Minor Management, said: “This is the real deal – BIMM is the reverse of pre-packaged pop – and we see ourselves as a unique centre of excellence for truly talented young writers, singers and players who are serious about their careers. This album really stands up in its own right, in fact I can’t stop listening to it.â€
Kevin continued: “Making this album has given the artists the experience and opportunity to shine in a truly professional environment and work with some of the leading people in the music industry. It was clear from the recording sessions that BIMM produces artists with exactly the right attitude and dedication for successful careers in this field.â€
The album will be sent to all key industry personnel and distributed through the Setanta label (home of The Jeevas and Evan Dando). All artists on the album retain the rights to their tracks. Any profits from the sale of the album will be given to the Orpheus music centre for disabled young people.
